Spring is officially here and the weather is finally starting to warm-up. With the warmer weather more and more individuals are heading outdoors for some fresh air and exercise. Maybe your wanting to start-up running or biking and are in need of a good playlist.
I'm Kaeley Wynsma, and I am the owner of Transform Fitness Studio in Grandville. I was a collegiate runner and currently I am a Spartan elite OCR racer. I am going to share with you a couple of my current favorite workout playlist to get you started. I change up my playlist based on my goals for that specific run like distance and tempo.
When choosing songs for your playlist, consider BPM, or beats per minute. BPM is the tempo of a song, and typically corresponds with the kind of mood the song will set. The higher the BPM, the faster the song, which is great if you want to move quickly or intensely. Meanwhile, a lower BPM means the song is slower, which is great for cooling down, stretching, and even yoga. Not sure how to calculate BPM? There are free apps you can use, or you can simply see how the music moves you -- it's not an exact science you need to follow, it's all about how you move to the music.
If my goal is distance I am going to choose a playlist that is upbeat and with a more consistent 128-130 BPM . A few examples I pick are Apple music Power Workout or Apple music Top 40 hits remixed. In my interval style runs where I go at 80% for 1 min and 60% for 2 mins for a set length of time I pick a playlist that has more variety similar to a circuit or HIIT workout. A few examples are Apple music Workout music Hits 2021 and Apple music Hip Hop HIIT.
Any music that inspires and motivates you works. Just like there is no perfect workout for everyone, there is no one size fits all perfect playlist. Your playlist is a to help you stay consistent and look forward to your healthy activity.
